Golf Course Superintendent

The Golf Course Superintendent provides leadership, direction, and support of the Golf Course Maintenance department.  This position is responsible for managing the maintenance of the golf course, growth and health of turf grasses, maintenance of equipment and irrigation system, and the maintenance facility and exterior grounds of clubhouses, cottages, and entrances.  Furthermore, the Golf Course Superintendent will be responsible for keeping detailed records and preparing annual budgets and reports for the Golf Course Maintenance department.  He/she also proactively communicates with the Club’s various committees and board of directors.  The Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the General Manager and is instrumental in the successful growth and operations of Pauma Valley Country Club.

  • BA, BS, or AA in agronomy/horticulture/plant/soil science from an accredited college/university or equivalent preferred
  • Experience in all phases of golf course management and turf culture
  • Qualified Applicator License (QAL) license for the State of California
  • Participatory knowledge of the game of golf, its rules, and strategies
  • Effective communication skills to enhance internal and external relationships

·         Thorough knowledge of:

  • the construction, establishment, and maintenance practices involved with golf course greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers
  • the planting and culture of golf course turf grasses
  • the planting, cultivation, and pruning of ornamental plants, shrubs, and trees
  • the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners
  • pest control methods and materials
  • drainage methods
  • watering practices and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps, and automatic controls
  • the operation, service, and repair of light and heavy construction and maintenance equipment
  • General knowledge of the construction and maintenance needs of the maintenance facility, shelters, fences, bridges, golf cart paths, service roads, parking lots, ponds, and streams
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including, but not limited to: Word, Excel, and Access
  • Prior experience working with Bermuda grass turf, overseeding with Rye grass annually, Poa Annua green surfaces and climates like Pauma Valley, CA
  • Ability to plan and staff projects and ongoing maintenance jobs. Ensure time and date sensitive work is effectively carried out and labor and material costs are controlled within approved budget levels
  • Working knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices and methods
  • Flexibility to deal with unexpected course, maintenance, staffing or other issues
  • Supervisory and human relations skills that foster a cooperative work environment
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of current federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting the management of the golf course, including but not limited to employment, safety, and environmental laws, standards, and regulations
  • State certification or license as a pesticide applicator
  • Participation in continuing education opportunities, such as seminars, workshops, correspondence courses, field days, and trade shows

Landscape Gardener and Golf Maintenance

Pauma Valley Country Club is looking for an experienced Landscape Gardener and Golf Course Maintenance personnel for a private country club.
- Maintain the common areas around the clubhouse, cottages, and other areas related to the Club.
- Work on the golf course edging sand traps and cleaning drains
- Assist in other tasks including raking sand traps, mowing tees, and mowing collars

- Must have a valid California drivers license
- Must be able to program irrigation controllers and repair irrigation when needed
- Must be able to operate lawn mowers, leaf blowers, weed-eaters, hedge-trimmers, etc.
- Have knowledge of plants, irrigation, fertilizing, pruning, pulling weeds, trimming shrubs, planting shrubs and flowers, etc...
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays
- Must be able to pass a drug test

Compensation: $11-$13/Hour DOE
This is a full time position with benefits Included: Holiday bonus, uniforms, lunch, golfing privileges, medical, dental and vision insurance available

Hospitality / Server

We are looking for individuals who are committed to customer service to serve food and beverages to members and guests at a private country club providing an excellent member/guest experience in a courteous and professional manner. Wednesday through Sunday weekly

- Describe menu items to members and guests
- Take and fill food and drink orders
- Cleaning and preparing the dining area/tables
- Greeting members and guests and making them feel welcome
- Must be able to stand on your feet for prolonged periods of time and lift 30 lbs

- Previous experience in customer service, food service, or other related fields desired
- Ability to build rapport with members and guests
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be available for night time, weekends, and holiday shifts
- Flexible/participate in team work
- Drug-free (testing required)
- Food Handlers Certificate

Compensation: $10.50/hour + service charge pool

Food & Beverage Working Supervisor

Looking for a F&B Working Supervisor for a private member-owned country club.

- Drug Screening
- Must be available to work weekends, nights and holidays when needed.
- Must have at least five years of experience in a professional Food and Beverage restaurant, hotel or private club. (private club experience is a plus)

Compensation: $12 an hour plus service charge pool
